Architecture is the result of much more than the simple addition of its spaces; it is the result of the careful arrangement of its spaces into a larger whole. Rather than relying solely on the functional relationships of the different spaces to determine this arrangement, architects take into account formal ordering principles (how spaces are organized) and experiential considerations. The assignment teaches about these by using diagrams to decode a building and its site. Diagrams are like anatomical drawings that reveal the underlying structure of a body. Diagrams isolate one aspect of a design and depict its order or structure. When performing this function, they are analytical. This one week precedent study is meant to exemplify the formal language within Casa Equis in Cañete, Peru.
